Frequently Asked Questions

General

  • How do I install the DLL-file I have downloaded from DLL-files.com ?

    Step 1

    • Open the zip-file you downloaded from DLL-files.com .
    • Extract the DLL-file to a location on your computer.
    • After extracting your zip-file, place the extracted DLL-file in the directory of the program that is requesting the file. Make sure to use a 32bit DLL-file for a 32bit program, and a 64bit DLL-file for a 64bit program. Failure to do so will likely result in a 0xc000007b error.

    Step 2

If that does not help your problem, place the file to your system directory.

    By default, this is

    C:\Windows\System (Windows 95/98/Me),

    C:\WINNT\System32 (Windows NT/2000), or

    C:\Windows\System32 (Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10).

    On a 64bit version of Windows, the default folder for 32bit DLL-files is C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ , and for 64bit dll-files C:\Windows\System32\ .

Make sure to overwrite any existing files (but make a backup copy of the original file).

    Reboot your computer.

    Step 3

If the problem still occurs, try the following to register the DLL-file:

    For 32bit DLL-files on a 32bit Windows, and for 64bit DLL-files on a 64bit Windows:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt.
      • To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click "Command Prompt", and then click Run as administrator.
      • In Windows 8/10, go to the Start screen. Start typing cmd and Windows will find "Command Prompt". Right click "Command Prompt" and choose "Run as administrator".
      • If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
    2. Type regsvr32 "filename".dll and press Enter.

    Registering 32bit DLL-files on a 64bit Windows:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt, as instructed above.
    2. In the command prompt, start by typing following and press enter:
      • cd c:\windows\syswow64\
    3. then type the following and press enter:
      • regsvr32 c:\windows\syswow64\"filename".dll

Finally, reboot your PC one last time to refresh the memory. That should do it!

  • Why do my DLL files suddenly disappear?

DLL files can be shared between many different programs. If you remove a program using an uninstall utility it might remove all files it installed during the installation process, including DLL files shared with other programs.

An install or upgrade might have failed, leaving out some needed files.

This might also happen if you manually copy the files of a program from one location to another, without using the proper setup process.

  • Why do I get DLL errors?

Because of the way DLL files work, many of them are included by default in any windows installation. So, when you install a program, it assumes that the information it needs to run is already present on your computer. If a particular DLL needed for operation is missing or corrupted that program will no longer work. It will give a DLL error that you see on your screen.

In most cases, DLL errors appear when programs or files are corrupted by viruses or other malware, or even removed by your anti-virus program after such an infection. Other situations may appear when a file is removed during uninstallation of a program or when removed manually by accident. But it could even be as simple as you trying to run an older program on a new computer, where the old DLL files that the program requires are not included by default in your new Windows installation. The opposite, trying a new program on an older computer is also a possibility for the same reason.

  • What is a DLL?

DLL stands for Dynamic Link Library, which in short means it’s a library of information, or functions, that can be linked to from different programs that make use of the information in the DLL. It is dynamic in the way that it is a repository with often several hundred functions, and the program linking to it can make use of any of them, or all, as required. The benefit is that programs do not have to include every single function in its own files, instead using the shared DLL, thereby reducing the program size.

A simplified example; ten different programs all need to show some form of button on your computer screen. Instead of each coming with its own button, they all call the same “showbutton.dll” that already exists on your computer. Since all ten programs use the same file, less space is used on your computer.

  • "filename.DLL could not be found"-error from RunDLL

This is a fairly common error and can be related to your antivirus removing a file perceived as a threat, but not the autostart task or scheduled task to run it:

The simplest way to get rid of the error, is to stop Windows from attempting to load this file.

    How to remove the task attempting to run the missing file;

    1. Download the free program Autoruns by Microsoft.
    2. Run Autoruns (as admin) and find the yellow highlighted Image Paths that ends with the filename in your error message. Usually you can locate those image paths from the tab named "Scheduled Task".

    3. Right click any yellow highlighted row ending with the filename and path from the error message, and choose delete.
    4. Try to find all yellow highlighted Image Paths that ends with the filename and path from the error message from "Everything" tab, delete them.
    5. NOTE: Carefully choose image paths that ends with the filename from the error message only, if you deleted paths that are not highlighted then it might cause some trouble booting your PC.

    6. Reboot Computer
  • 0xc000007b ERROR

    Programname.EXE - Application Error

The application was unable to start
    correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to
    close the application.

There might be multiple reasons as to why you receive an 0xc000007b error when trying to run an application on a Windows computer.

This error comes from mixing up 32bit environment with 64bit one.
For example, if a 32bit application tries to load a 64bit DLL-file, it would cause this error.

Make sure that you have the correct version of the program for your Windows environment.

Often the 64 and 32 bit versions of a program are the same, but if you get the 0xc000007b error, check your system to make sure which bit version your system is. Check this in the Control Panel - ‘System’ option.

Look for "System Type" in the window that opens.

Or find out with this Microsoft guide.

If this happens after installing a file with the DLL-Files Fixer, this means you've got the wrong version. Go back and install one of the dll versions with the other bit structure.

  • I just purchased the DLL-files Fixer, when will I receive my License Key?

Some payment options are considerably slower than others. For example, a credit card payment is almost always instant. A PayPal transaction may take several hours to process, and a wire transfer can sometimes take 5-10 business days. The mail with your License Key is not sent out until the process is completed and the money has been registered in our account.

  • Can I get a refund? The DLL-files Fixer did not live up to my expectations.

Currently we offer a 30-day Money Back Guarantee. To get a refund, contact support, and remember to include your "Cleverbridge reference number"! You can find it in the confirmation e-mail you got after you purchased DLL-files Fixer.

  • Can I use my License Key on several computers?

All Premium Version licenses to use the DLL-files Fixer are to be considered personal, for one person and computer. However, since you might need to upgrade hardware or replace your computer before the license expires, we allow for additional installations, as follows:

1 Year license: 3 unique installations.

    2 Year & 3 Year licenses: 5 unique installations.

Every time you use the license to the DLL-files Fixer on a new computer it will count as a single usage.

  • My AntiVirus blocks and/or removes the DLL-Files Fixer, what to do?

There seems to be a new policy about allowing a program access to the registry on a client machine that some Antivirus companies take a harder stance on.

The "PUA" signature means "potentially unwanted application" and is a very low risk detection they set on everything they are not 100% sure about, until they have had a chance to do a more thorough analysis. We are currently working with antivirus companies to make sure that this detection is cleared as soon as possible.

In the meantime I can assure you that using the DLL-files Fixer is completely safe and to reinstall, simply "accept" it through your ntivirus, and add it to a whitelist/exclusion in the security settings. In some cases, you add the entire program folder, in some cases, just the main “dllfixer.exe” and “dffsetup.exe” files themselves. You can find the files in:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Dll-Files.com Fixer\ and
    C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\dll-files.com\

Cleverbridge is our e-commerce partner taking care of transactions and License Key delivery for the DLL-files Fixer.

  • Why do I get an error saying “Invalid License Key” when I try to activate the DLL-files Fixer?

This error occurs when you enter the wrong key, typically a simple misspelling. First, make sure you have correctly entered your license key. The best way is to copy and paste it from your purchase confirmation e-mail.

If you, for some reason, are unable to copy and paste your license key, please take a closer look at your license key. A common mistake is to confuse 0 (zero) and O (the letter o). Also remember that all letters in your license key are uppercase letters.

If you still get an error, contact our support.

  • Why do I get an error saying "License Key already used" when I try to activate DLL-files Fixer?

This error occurs when you have already used your license key in the past.

  • I cant get the Fixer to work! I don't know what is wrong..

The DLL-Files Fixer is designed to work all all types of computers running any form of Windows from Windows XP SP3 and later (including Win8.1). As with any software, however, certain issues can appear on various systems. Troubleshooting is the key!

If you don't know what is wrong, and you don't get a clear error message, here are a couple of things you can try quickly on your own:

Scenario: The Fixer installs well, but when running it, the Fixer doesn't display correctly. I get blank screens with no content!

The most likely issue is that internet connection settings are interfering. The Fixer is based on Microsoft technology and uses some IE resources. Solve this by resetting internet explorer settings

Scenario: The Fixer installs ok, but when I try to register my key, or want to download a .dll file, I get an error telling me to check my internet connection.

The Fixer relies on your internet connection to retrieve information on the file you are searching for from our information database. Sometimes this connection is aborted even though you have an active internet connection. Typically, this is due to an anti-virus or firewall software blocking the connection. Make sure no restrictions is put on the Fixer in your security software (sometimes you have to set a rule exception to always allow connection for the Fixer). Alternatively, resetting internet explorer settings may also work (see above)

  • Why does it say that I don't have an internet connection when I try to activate DLL-files Fixer?

This is usually caused by firewall and/or antivirus software. You can add the DLL-files Fixer to the ignore list which is a common feature of most such software, or you can disable your antivirus program for a few minutes while registering the DLL-files Fixer.

  • I have bought the DLL-files Fixer Premium Version, but it still asks me to register before fixing the errors!

You just have to register your copy of DLL-files Fixer with your License Key. Find the E-mail from Cleverbridge, received just after your purchase of DLL-files Fixer. In that e-mail you will find your License Key. In order to register your copy of the DLL-files Fixer, start up DLL-files Fixer, Click the "Activate Premium Version" button in the top right hand corner. Type in your License Key in the "License Key" field and click "Register Now". See pictures below:

  • What if the DLL-files Fixer doesn’t solve my DLL file problem?

If the DLL-files Fixer doesn’t immediately solve your DLL error, please contact support so we can help you solve your problem.
